Religious Education (RE)

Subject Lead - RE (ID 1274)

RE helps young people develop valuable insights into the diverse beliefs, values  & opinions held by people today. It helps with their own personal development & supports an understanding of the spiritual, moral, social & cultural questions that surface again & again in their lives.

It helps promote the virtues of respect and empathy, which are important in our diverse society. It fosters civilised debate and reasoned argument, and helps pupils to understand the place of religion and belief in the modern world.

While it's compulsory for all maintained schools to provide RE, it's not part of the National Curriculum. This means that the Government doesn't dictate what is taught, and there are no mandatory assessments in the subject at primary or secondary level.
