At Stanley Green we promote a love of History by immersing ourselves in the topics. Learning about History helps us to understand people and events that have helped to shape our world that happened in the past, both recently and many years ago. We believe children enjoy ‘living’ the history they are learning about and ensure they have opportunities to come to school dressed up on topic days.
History encourages children to develop their knowledge and understanding of time and events in chronological order. It helps children to understand the difference between past, present and future. Our current children have also lived through some momentous events in recent years, experiencing and celebrating special occasions together such as the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee picnic. We are now looking forward to celebrating other events in the future together, creating lifelong learning and memories for our children based around the King’s Coronation.
Our aim is to make History a fun and purposeful learning experience for all children. Each year group focuses on different historical events, developing and improving their historical enquiry skills as they progress through the school:
- Guy Fawkes
- Remembrance Day
- Mary Anning
- Dinosaurs
- Grace Darling
- Pirates
- The Great Fire of London
