Defibrillator Fund Information

We are excited to inform you all and our local community that we now have our Defibrillator installed outside the school front office. It has been registered on the 'Circuit', we hope that it is not ever needed but are delighted that we now have our own on site.

What is a Defibrillator?

An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable life saving device that can give a casualty’s heart an electric shock, when it has stopped beating normally in a sudden cardiac arrest.

A defibrillator works by checking the casualty's heart rhythm once the defibrillator pads are placed on their chest and giving them a shock if needed.

Defibrillators can be used on adults or children over one year old.

When our school first aiders attended a recent requalification course they were alarmed to learn that there is only about a 2% chance of saving the life of a casualty in cardiac arrest without the intervention of a defibrillator. By using a defibrillator and effective CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) or chest compressions only before an ambulance arrives, you can significantly increase a casualty’s chance of survival.

A swift response is essential in an emergency situation such as a cardiac arrest, the nearest defibrillator to our school is not within a feasibly retrievable distance when time is so precious and limited.
